I am so excited to share my brand new recording with you! It was a long labor and it is finally finished despite all the trials of these times we are living in. This is a mantra about gratitude and I hope that it helps you through any challenges you encounter!
This mantra is traditionally used for protection and to bring abundance. The first step in bringing prosperity into your life is gratitude, sometimes even in the midst of challenges or perceived scarcity. I was experiencing a challenging time in my life and I wrote the english verse as a gratitude practice to remind myself that every moment I have the opportunity to practice deep gratitude for being alive, for each breath, for each glorious precious heartbeat.
I began this project two years ago with the help of producer, Gian Berselli, whose beautiful vision got this out of my living room and into digital media form. From there it was handed to my husband, Jose Onate, who took it on another journey. Finally this track was handed back to me once I had gained the tools to record and produce it myself in my own kitchen. How to do it? Send the noisy munchkin out with his dad, then hit RECORD!
In the first iteration we had asked the amazing cellist, Jami Sieber, to play some instrumental solos for the track. When I got the original track back, I discovered I had cello material left unused. I set to work chopping and pasting, and created what has now become a duet between myself and Jami’s incredible cello voice. I sent Jami a very rough sketch of what I wanted and she re-recorded her parts and turned them into a Rembrandt!
During this time I had the wonderful serendipity to meet William Rossel while serving as an attendant at Osmosis Day Spa. We found we shared a love of Indian music and a connection to Chile! I sent William the finished track and he was able to add his thoughtful and delicate tabla to it! If I had not surrendered to the amount of time this track needed to be born, I would not have met William and this piece would be missing his beat.
Lastly, I got to work with Paul Lamb for the mixing of this track and he made all of our hard work sound sparkling and grand. He was a pleasure to work with and he was happy to impart his knowledge with me so that I can improve my recordings technique and budding producer skills!
from the heart of this recording to you:
I am so grateful
and I am so blessed
for all that I have been given
for ALL of this
New Release: Ayka Maaee with message from the Divine Mother
I am so excited to share my first solo, self produced recording with you!
This year, when my husband asked me what I wanted for my birthday I said I wanted to learn how to use recording software so I could record and arrange my own songs. Little did I know or even imagine how incredible this process would be. Having the power to put my ideas down as they came through feels like what I have been searching for all my life. Set up, press record, sing, repeat: utter divine bliss!
During this time I also put out a prayer for someone to collaborate with and add guitar on my tracks…that night I woke up at 3 am with the answer: Chris Micca. Twenty years ago before I left to study in India I had a band with my dear friend Chris and we wrote songs together as easy as breathing. I had lost touch with him during the eleven years I spent outside the US but when I asked if he would be interested in playing on some recordings he said yes!
My husband Jose Onate is an incredible sound engineer who became a wild starry- eyed scientist in his sound lab over the last few months trying new plug-ins and studying master producers to get the sound I told him I wanted. Being parents it was also a challenge to find a quiet moment to get the final take (setting up a tent outside for our 7 year-old proved to be fairly effective). Being hunkered down in place and far from Chris we also had the hurdle of getting him set up to record himself from North Carolina. This is the result of our trials and errors, labor of love and kitchen/ living room recording studios…from our shelter to yours!
When I sat down to record this mantra a brand new english verse came through. Instead of my previously created lyrical translation of the mantra suddenly the Divine Mother herself was speaking. This is her message to us all, her beautiful children:
My Darling my child
no matter how many miles
there’s nothing in the whole wide world
that can take my love
from inside of you
there’s nothing in the whole wide world
that can take my love away
I am so grateful for your support by listening, buying the track, following me on Bandcamp and sharing with your friends or any other inspirations you may have to share!
